How the formula works

On Hyperliquid, liquidation happens when your equity falls below the maintenance margin requirement. For an isolated-margin long: 

liquidation = entry − (equity − notional × MMR − fees) / positionSize × entry

Where MMR is Hyperliquid's tier-based maintenance margin rate (starts at 1%, rises with position size) and fees is optional round-trip open+close.

Key differences vs other venues

  • Hyperliquid applies hourly funding, not 8-hourly like most CEXes.
  • Insurance-fund dynamics and oracle updates can shift the effective liquidation price by 10-30 bps from pure formula output.
  • Cross margin draws from total account equity, pushing liquidation much further than isolated.
